Von seiner ursprünglichen Stellung als erblicher Herzog aus rückt Adarnase III an die Spitze Iberiens und folgt vermutlich dem Guaramiden-Herrscher Guaram III. als herrschender Fürst von Iberien (Kartli) nach. Guaram III. hat einen Sohn, Guaram IV., der mit der Tochter Adarnases verheiratet ist, sodass über diese Heiratsverbindung die Machtposition Adarnases zusätzlich gefestigt wird. Als Fürst von Iberien regiert Adarnase III etwa von 748 bis 760 und steht damit in dieser Zeit an der Spitze des georgischen Fürstentums. Während seiner Herrschaft trägt er den byzantinischen Titel curopalates, was den starken byzantinischen Einfluss auf Georgien erkennen lässt, obwohl Iberien formell weiterhin unter der Oberhoheit des Abbasidenkalifats steht. </div></td></tr>
